A Serious Case of Mom-Purse

Do you ever feel as if you’re suddenly carrying the weight of the world slung over your shoulder? It happens to me with some regularity. At first I just ignore it. Then I swear to myself that I’ll clean out the mess of receipts and fruit leather wrappers soon. Then my husband starts complaining that he can’t find my phone when it starts ringing somewhere in the dark recesses of my bag while I’m busy nursing the baby. Then one day it’s just too much, and the weight starts to make me hate the purse, so I switch to a different one.
Today was one of those days. I shifted from a huge beige suede bag to an equally huge black leather bag with buckles and studs all over the place. Sometimes I clean the purse out thoroughly, but more often, I take the essentials, make reasonably sure there isn’t an apple in the old purse, and toss it into the closet. Tonight the baby was asleep in bed instead of my lap, so I did a thorough clean out of the beige bag I was moving from and the black back I was moving into.
In the black bag, which I haven’t carried since last March when Tulip and I were going to the OBGYN for bi-weekly check-ups to find out when in the world Smiley Face was finally going to emerge, I hit the mother load. I found, in no particular order, two unopened cans of the fruit breath mints Tulip loves, a tin full of cute hair barrettes, my camera case, and a stub worth $81.46 in store credit at my favorite used book store. Shocking, isn’t it? How can one person be so disorganized? I’m just special that way.
Back to the heaviest purse in the world issue, though. As bizarre as my discoveries in my black purse were, they don’t compare to what I found in my most recent bag. I’ve been carrying around rocks. Literally. Tulip and I panned for rocks last month, and I tucked the baggies full of keepers into my purse to take home. Lucky me, I also took them to the grocery store, the play ground, the mall, basically everywhere.
The rocks:

You’re not the only one with rocks in the purse…but congrats on the goodies you found in the black purse.
