Sick Baby Stress

Smiley is a sick boy. You’d never know if based on his current behavior, but he is. He has pink eye, the drainage from which has likely given him an ear infection. Yesterday afternoon his fever was 102.6, which freaks me out even if that is only moderate for a baby his age. He was scheduled to see the pediatrician at 8:30, but the receptionist called to say that there had been 150 wrecks this morning due to ice, so they were pushing everything back an hour.
Right now the baby, who hasn’t had anything to lower his fever since last night has a perfectly normal temperature, but I hesitate to give up his doctor’s appointment because I know that at 4:45 this afternoon, just when it will be impossible to see his pediatrician instead of making a trip to the emergency room, his fever will ramp up again. I find the responsibility of making medical decisions for my children incredibly stressful even when there are only small blips in their otherwise good health.
In other stress-inducing news, my husband’s birthday is just around the corner, and the present I picked out is now out of stock. Why didn’t I just place the order immediately instead of deciding to think about it some more before I committed? Why? Why? Why? It looks like it’ll be another sweater he never wears and an addition to his funny boxer short collection again this year. That sucks because I had such a great idea.
